Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Mauritian survey locations

Plan the survey around Mauritius’ ports, lagoons and Rodrigues

Marine facilities are concentrated around a limited number of locations, while lagoon access, weather and haul-out capability vary around the island. Name the exact berth or mooring and distinguish private survey work from registry or statutory certification.

Port Louis

Port Louis Harbour · Caudan · commercial and repair facilities

The principal commercial harbour has controlled access. Confirm the berth or yard, security permission, contractor entry, haul-out and sea-trial arrangements.

Grand Baie & north

Grand Baie · Cap Malheureux · northern moorings

Many yachts are afloat or on moorings rather than in a full-service yard. Arrange safe boarding and identify where the underwater body can be inspected.

Find a surveyor in this region

Black River & west

Rivière Noire · Tamarin · west-coast marinas and moorings

Confirm the exact facility, tender access, local lift capability and weather conditions for any sea trial or vessel transfer.

East & south coasts

Trou d’Eau Douce · Mahébourg · Blue Bay · southern lagoons

Lagoon depth, reef access and limited marine facilities can affect the scope. A vessel move may be needed for haul-out or specialist work.

Find a surveyor in this region

Rodrigues

Port Mathurin · Rodrigues anchorages and facilities

Rodrigues is a separate air and island-travel assignment. Confirm flights, accommodation, local transport, permissions and available technical support.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Mauritius marine survey quote?

Provide the exact harbour, marina, mooring or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include lagoon or tender access, haul-out, sea trial, Rodrigues travel and any insurer, lender or registry requirement.

Can a surveyor attend anywhere around Mauritius?

Potentially, subject to availability, safe access and the required facilities. Lagoon location, road travel, weather and any vessel move to a suitable haul-out facility should be agreed first.

Is a private survey enough for Mauritius registration?

Not automatically. The Mauritius Shipping Division is responsible for ship registration, survey and certification and may use designated surveyors or approved classification societies. Confirm the exact registration or statutory route first.

Can the same surveyor attend Rodrigues?

Potentially, but Rodrigues is a separate travel assignment. Flights, accommodation, local transport, access and the availability of haul-out or specialist equipment must be confirmed.

Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included in the survey fee?

Only when expressly included. Island flights, accommodation, road or boat transfers, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Mauritius Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include refit & repair supervision, cyclone, grounding & damage surveys, rig & mast inspections, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, moisture, osmosis, ultrasound & corrosion, delivery, passage & sea-trial surveys, on-hire, off-hire & commercial handover, mauritius registry & statutory work. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
